Your Guide to a Tampa Rays Game

June 28th, 2018 by

Spring is in the air, and the baseball season is in full swing. No matter if you’re a seasoned baseball game veteran or a first-time attendee, reading up on what to expect or look out for at a Tampa Rays game is important. Here’s a brief guide on what you need to know when heading to a game.

Find Your Seats

Tickets to a Tampa Rays game are relatively easy to find even at the last minute. Sites like SeatGeek offer genuine tickets at bargain prices. The best thing is you don’t have to wait for physical tickets to arrive, as purchasing e-tickets merely requires printing them out at home.

Be Smart When Traveling to Tropicana Field

The Tampa Rays’ home stadium is Tropicana Field. Like with many sporting arenas, getting there and finding parking is tough. Luckily, there are solutions for those who like driving and those who prefer not to. If you plan on driving, buy a parking pass in advance. Myriad websites, such as Parking Whiz, offer parking passes online for events and sports like baseball. Simply go to your preferred parking pass vendor, select the garage you want, and purchase the pass. You’ll have a reserved parking space in that structure for a fee less expensive than on-site event parking.

If you do bring friends or family to each game, you are eligible for free parking. This applies to four people or more in Lots 2, 6, 7, 8, and 9 for Sunday games. Regular parking is $15 otherwise.

Alternatively, ride-sharing services also provide on-demand transportation. If you’re attending a game with friends or family, ride in one vehicle together and split the total fare. There’s also public transportation via free shuttle services for all home games. Get to a shuttle stop in St. Petersburg by walking or driving. Service starts 90 minutes before each game and continues 90 minutes after it ends.

Game Food

Food is a must when watching a baseball game. If you’re planning to bring food into the park, store it in a clear plastic bag or a soft-sided cooler. Plastic water bottles are acceptable so long as they are still sealed and untouched. Leave glass bottles or cans at home, though.

For those who want to get food in the park, a must try is the Cuban Sandwich. Several vendors have these. But a top choice is the Reuben Cuban Sandwich available in section 147. They also serve empanadas. Other fare available at the park includes traditional options like pretzels, hot dogs, and pizza. You’ll also find a variety of burgers, tacos, corn dogs, and ice cream. Kale salad is an option for people eating healthy.

Other Indulgences

Tropicana Field also features a cigar bar. While not for everyone, the bar is one of the only ones in the MLB. Located in center field behind the outfield, cigar lovers enjoy a spectacular view of the game in soft leather chairs.

Going to a baseball game at Tropicana Field is an experience that’s fun for adults and kids alike. Plan your next game day visit to the stadium using these tips and enjoy the game.
